Utilizing 119.25 Hectares of SG's Land, the SGSP Farmers Earn 15-20 Million Rupiahs per Year
Rembang, October 12, 2022 – PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) persistently proceeds to implement the community empowerment program named Semen Gresik Sahabat Petani (SGSP) for farmers in six villages around the Company. This program involved 361 smallholder farmers under their facilitation to manage 119.25 hectares of land owned by PTSG.
The six SGSP member villages from Rembang and Blora Regencies are Kajar, Pasucen, Tegaldowo, Kadiwono, Timbrangan, and Ngampel.
The PTSG's senior manager of communication & CSR, Dharma Sunyata, pointed out that SGSP primarily aims to optimize the utilization of natural resources that can provide added economic value and increase the capability of the human resources around the Company.
"The SGSP program is facilitated with capacity building activities, infrastructure development, the concept of empowerment activities, and assistance to support the empowerment activities," explained Sunyata in his press release on Wednesday (12/10).
As a leading cement company in the country, Sunyata continued, SGSP constitutes a testament to Semen Gresik's commitment to community empowerment and the acceleration of local agricultural sovereignty. The community is expected to manage agricultural land optimally and produce high economic value results.
"The majority of farmers grow corn as their main commodity, and they manage to harvest them three times a year with an average income of IDR15,000,000-IDR21,000,000 per year. The monitoring results showed that each farmer could produce five to eight tons of corn at harvest time," he explained.
Sunyata added that the infrastructure development support covers the construction of Joglo Tani Semen Gresik as the meeting and capacity building place, Edupark as a demonstration plot for land utilization for agricultural and livestock activities, and reservoirs as a source of water supply in the dry season.
"The utilization of 119.25 hectares of SG's land managed by the farmers does not charge anything from the farmers' crops. These agricultural activities are integrated with nature conservation activities by the Company, such as planting horticultural crops and standing crops for the Company's greenbelt management," he concluded.
Meanwhile, the SGSP coordinator in Timbrangan village, Musahid, expressed his gratitude for the SGSP program, which has empowered farmers in Timbrangan village.
"The SGSP program greatly benefits the farmers. It enables us to gain knowledge and receive training and a grant in the form of seeds to manage the SG's land," he said (12/10).
